Rob Roy Cocktail Recipe

The Rob Roy is Scotland’s elegant ambassador in the world of classic cocktails. Born in 1894 at New York’s Waldorf Astoria, this simple yet sophisticated drink swaps the Manhattan’s bourbon for Scotch whisky, creating a smoky, complex character all its own. Named after the Scottish folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor, it’s a cocktail that balances rich tradition with straightforward preparation, perfect for those evenings when you want something timeless with minimal fuss.

  • Coupe glass

Instructions

  • Fill your mixing glass about two-thirds full with ice.
  • Pour the Scotch whisky into the mixing glass.
  • Add the sweet vermouth.
  • Add two dashes of Angostura bitters.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.

Notes

  • While any blended Scotch works, choose a medium-bodied one with some character but not too peaty, unless you prefer a smokier cocktail.
