In a cocktail shaker, add bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, lime juice and 2 dashes of bitters. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Strain the mixture into your chilled copper mug filled with crushed ice. Pour ginger beer over the strained mixture. Garnish with a slice of lime.
