Ingredients

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz  rye whiskey

  • 30 ml 1 fl oz sweet vermouth

  • 10 ml 1/3 fl oz pure maple syrup

  • 2 dashes 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Ice cubes

  • 1 1 maraschino cherry

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Jigger
  • Coupe glass

Instructions

  •  Begin by chilling your coupe or martini glass in the freezer to ensure your cocktail stays cold longer.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the rye whiskey (or bourbon), sweet vermouth, maple syrup, and Angostura bitters.
  •  Fill the shaker with ice cubes to the top. This helps in diluting the cocktail slightly and brings it to the perfect temperature.
  • Traditionally, Manhattans are stirred, so use a bar spoon to stir the cocktail in the shaker for about 30 seconds. However, feel free to shake if you prefer a slightly more diluted cocktail.
  • Using the strainer, pour the mixture into the chilled glass, ensuring no ice cubes transfer to your glass.
  • Add a maraschino cherry to the cocktail for the perfect finishing touch.

Notes

  • For an added depth of flavor, you can use a smoked maple syrup that imparts a subtle smokiness to complement the whiskey beautifully.
