Irish Car Bomb Cocktail Recipe

This popular American bar drink combines three iconic Irish ingredients into one bold experience. The Irish Car Bomb brings together the rich, malty flavor of Guinness stout with smooth Irish cream and the warming character of Irish whiskey in a dramatic dropped shot presentation that creates a creamy, chocolatey flavor profile when consumed quickly.

Ingredients

  • 330 ml 11 fl oz Guinness stout

  • 15 ml 1/2 fl oz Jameson Irish whiskey

  • 15 ml 1/2 fl oz Bailey’s Irish Cream

Equipment

  • Pint glass
  • Shot glass
  • Jigger

Instructions

  • Pour the Guinness into a pint glass, filling it about 3/4 full. Let it settle for about 30 seconds.
  • In a shot glass, pour the Jameson Irish whiskey first.
  • Float the Bailey’s Irish Cream on top of the whiskey by pouring it slowly over the back of a bar spoon.
  • Present both glasses to the drinker.
  • When ready to drink, drop the entire shot glass into the pint of Guinness.
  • Drink immediately, as the cream will begin to curdle if left too long.

Notes

  • In Ireland, this drink is better known as an “Irish Slammer” as the original name can be considered offensive due to its reference to violent events during the Troubles.
