Ingredients

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz Scotch whisky (or bourbon)

  • 22.5 ml 2/3 fl oz amaretto liqueur

  • Orange or lemon peel for garnish

Equipment

  • Old fashioned glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger

Instructions

  • Prepare the glass: Place one large ice cube or sphere in your old fashioned glass.
  • Add the spirits: Pour the Scotch whisky directly over the ice, followed by the amaretto.
  • Stir gently: Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 10-15 seconds to combine and chill.
  • Garnish: Express the oils from a piece of orange or lemon peel over the drink, then drop it in or discard according to preference.

Notes

  • Choose your base wisely: Scotch creates the traditional version with smoky, complex notes, while bourbon offers a sweeter, more approachable alternative. Both work beautifully, so pick based on your mood and preference. Blended Scotch works perfectly here and costs less than single malts.
