Ingredients

  • 45 ml 1 1/2 fl oz amaretto liqueur

  • 22.5 ml 3/4 fl oz bourbon whiskey

  • 30 ml 1 fl oz fresh lemon juice

  • 15 ml 1/2 fl oz simple syrup

  • 1 1 egg white

  • 2 dashes 2 Angostura bitters

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Jigger
  • Citrus press
  • Rock glass
  • Bar spoon

Instructions

  • Separate the egg white into a small bowl. Measure ½ oz for the cocktail.
  • Dry shake first. Add amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white to your shaker. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds without ice.
  • Add ice and shake again. Fill shaker with ice and shake hard for another 15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Double strain. Use both Hawthorne and fine mesh strainers to pour into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish and serve. Add 2 drops of bitters on the foam surface if desired. Garnish with a lemon twist and brandied cherry.

Notes

  • Bourbon matters: Choose a higher proof bourbon (100+ proof works best) to balance the amaretto’s sweetness and lower alcohol content. Wild Turkey 101 or Old Forester 1920 are excellent choices.
