Cape Cod Cocktail Recipe

The Cape Cod is one of those deceptively simple cocktails that lives or dies by its proportions. Vodka and cranberry juice built over ice with a squeeze of lime creates a tart, refreshing drink that became a bar staple in the 1960s. Named after the Massachusetts cranberry-growing region, this cocktail proves you don’t need complexity to be classic.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz vodka

  • 120 ml 4 fl oz cranberry juice

  • Half a fresh lime

  • Ice cubes

  • Lime wedge (for garnish)

Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon

Instructions

  • Fill a highball glass to the top with ice cubes. Fresh ice is important here because this drink isn’t shaken or strained.
  • Pour the vodka directly over the ice using a jigger to measure. This keeps the proportions accurate.
  • Add the cranberry juice to fill the glass. The standard ratio is one part vodka to two parts cranberry juice, which balances the alcohol with the tart cranberry flavor.
  • Squeeze the juice from half a lime directly into the glass. This adds brightness and cuts through the sweetness.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 10 seconds to combine and chill the ingredients. The Cape Cod is built in the glass, not shaken, so stirring is essential.
  • Drop the spent lime half into the glass or garnish the rim with a fresh lime wedge. Serve immediately.
