Ingredients

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz dark rum

  • 30 ml 1 fl oz Kahlúa coffee liqueur

  • 30 ml 1 fl oz crème de cacao

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz cream of coconut

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz whole milk

  • 1 handful 1 handful ice cubes

  • Whipped cream for garnish

  • 1 1 maraschino cherry

  • Fresh grated nutmeg

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Hurricane glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger

Instructions

  • Prepare the glass: Chill your hurricane glass in the freezer for 5 minutes. Optionally, drizzle chocolate syrup around the inside of the glass.
  • Blend the cocktail: Add rum, Kahlúa, crème de cacao, cream of coconut, and milk to your blender. Pulse briefly to combine.
  • Add ice and blend: Add ice cubes and blend on high speed for 20-25 seconds until the mixture reaches a thick milkshake consistency.
  • Check consistency: The drink should hold its shape but still pour smoothly. Add more ice if too thin, or a splash of milk if too thick.
  • Serve and garnish: Pour into the chilled glass. Top with whipped cream, a maraschino cherry, and a light dusting of fresh grated nutmeg.

Notes

  • Quality matters: Use real cream of coconut, not coconut milk. Coco López gives the authentic sweetness and texture that makes this cocktail special.
