Blue Lagoon Cocktail Recipe

The Blue Lagoon is one of those cocktails that just works. This French classic combines vodka, blue curaçao, and lemonade into something refreshing and surprisingly tasty. Sure, it’s bright blue and looks a bit wild, but that’s part of its charm. It’s been around since the 1970s and remains popular because it’s easy to make and even easier to drink. Perfect for summer afternoons or whenever you want something light and fruity without the complexity of more elaborate cocktails.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml 2 fl oz vodka

  • 30 ml 1 fl oz blue curaçao

  • 120 ml 4 fl oz lemonade

  • Ice cubes

  • 1 1 orange slice or lemon wheel (for garnish)

  • 1 1 maraschino cherry (optional, for garnish)

Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger

Instructions

  •  Fill a highball glass with fresh ice cubes, filling it about three-quarters full.
  • Pour the vodka over the ice, allowing it to settle at the bottom of the glass.
  • Slowly pour the blue curaçao over the back of a bar spoon or by pouring it gently down the side of the glass. This creates a beautiful layered effect.
  • Slowly add the lemonade to fill the glass, pouring gently to maintain the color gradient.
  • Give the cocktail 2-3 gentle stirs to lightly blend the ingredients while maintaining the beautiful blue color.
  • Add an orange slice or lemon wheel to the rim of the glass and drop in a maraschino cherry if desired.
