Cook 4-6 strips of bacon until crispy. Reserve one strip for garnish and save the rest for another use.
Combine 250 ml (1 cup) of bourbon and the cooked bacon in an airtight container or jar.
Let the mixture infuse for 4-6 hours at room temperature, occasionally shaking the container.
Remove the bacon strips and strain the bourbon through a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove any bacon particles.
To make the Bacon Old Fashioned Cocktail:
In a rocks glass, combine the maple syrup and Angostura orange Bitters.
Fill the glass with large ice cubes.
Pour the bacon-infused bourbon over the ice.
Stir the mixture gently for about 20 seconds, ensuring all ingredients are well combined and the glass becomes frosty.
Garnish the cocktail with the orange peel twist and a strip of cooked bacon, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a more intense smoky flavor, consider smoking the glass before mixing the cocktail. To do this, place a small piece of lit wood or a wood chip on a heat-resistant surface, invert the glass over the smoke, and let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute before filling it with ice and ingredients. This will add an extra layer of smokiness to your Bacon Old Fashioned Cocktail.
